Protesters in Ecuador blocked the Pan-American highway with fallen trees and tire fires as they began a strike against rising gas prices. The demonstrators are urging the government to freeze gas prices at 2020 costs. 
Ecuador president Guillermo Lasso is gradually increasing gas prices to align them with international prices. Unions, social organizations and indigenous groups say the increases put too heavy of a burden on working Ecuadoreans.
